character: Tanaka Koji (Western order: Koji Tanaka)
canon point: post chapter 82
age: mid to late 20s (personal headcanon: 27)
physical affection: He is likely to just stand there awkwardly in response. He won't avoid it, he's just very unused to it at this point.
violence: Tanaka is distinctly unfazed by violence, although at this point he is going to make a sincere effort to avoid killing anyone. As a player, I'm up for anything you want to throw at me.
relationships: If Tanaka can make one entire actual friend without a whole It's Complicated situation, I will be so happy. That said, I'm also interested in people trying to use him. He's been used a lot and it would be interesting to see if his determination not to let that happen again holds up.
skills / abilities: In terms of skills, Tanaka grew up working on the family farm and so can help with basic agriculture. He's also, at this point, a pretty good shot, though he'll avoid using that skill if at all possible. In terms of abilities, though...
Immortality: Tanaka is a demi-human, and the defining characteristic of demi-humans is that they just don't die. This is, however, specifically a resurrection ability, not a healing one. Illness or injury will affect him...right up until the point he dies from it (or from something else). Reviving returns him to his "natural" state - it heals any broken limbs, gets rid of infections, removes scars, etc. If parts of his body are far away from each other, he'll regenerate starting from the largest piece and just make new body parts for the rest (i.e. if his arm is outside and he's killed inside, he'll grown a new arm). It's thought that old age can kill demi-humans, because they
do age, but nothing else will.
"Ghost"/Invisible Black Matter: Demi-humans are able to produce a previously-unknown form of matter, invisible to normal humans, which starts as a mist. For some, that mist can then solidify into a humanoid form - a "ghost." "Ghosts" have forms and to a certain extent personalities informed by the person they're connected to, and can be directly controlled or given orders to act out. Tanaka's looks like a tall, spindly human, but with a mouth of shark teeth that extends almost entirely around its head and huge talons instead of hands (it's fine. he's fine). "Ghosts" effectively have super strength and speed. In spite of all this, they have distinct limitations. Like many demi-humans, Tanaka can only bring his "ghost" out about twice a day, and because of how unstable the matter is it'll dissipate after 5 to 10 minutes. Rain also disrupts it, making the "ghost" difficult to control and liable to freeze up.
Paralyzing Scream: Demi-humans can shout in a way that causes normal humans to freeze for a minute or so. This power is most effective on people who know that the speaker is demi-human but who the demi-human in question has no emotional attachment to. Outside of those circumstances, the effect only lasts a few seconds. It's easily countered with earplugs. We never see Tanaka make use of it in canon, so it's unlikely he'll ever bother doing it deliberately.
psychic info: A psychic might notice that a lot of the memories he draws on for how to interact with people, how to farm, and other "normal" aspects of life are all from his childhood and teen years, nothing more recent. His ability to feel pain has canonically been dampened/slowed. Because I do what I want, I'm calling that he has frequent and extended bouts of depersonalization, is prone to insomnia and nightmares, has some intense anxiety about being around other people, and just generally will give any psychic the idea that he's been through a boatload of physical trauma, in contrast with the physical info below.
magical info: 100% magic-free and as susceptible to it as any normal human.
physiological info: Tanaka is 6 foot 1, in very good shape, and completely physically healthy. On a physiological level, demi-humans are identical to humans, so no medical exam or other scan would pick up on anything abnormal. He has no scars.
ic offensive subjects: Due to the nature of
Ajin and Tanaka's background, I'm going to separate this into "unavoidable" and "avoidable."
Unavoidable: Human/medical experimentation, torture, imprisonment/restraints, dehumanization, violent death, casual thoughts of death. In his mid to late teens, Tanaka died in a farming accident and was discovered to be demi-human. After a massive manhunt, he was taken into government custody, where he spent nearly all of the next ten years wrapped up like a mummy while government and industry tested his immortality in every way anyone could possibly think of. I will not go into detail without touching base first (unless you give me a blanket go-ahead), but it's going to be hard to avoid his narration referencing this part of his life. In dangerous situations, he will consider any ways "guess I'll die" could be used as a solution.
I completely understand if you want to opt out of CR - just let me know on my contact post.Avoidable: Terrorism, murder, gun violence, organ harvesting. After being rescued from the government, Tanaka joined his rescuer in committing a spot of the ol' terrorism for a while. Tanaka was directly responsible for a string of assassinations, and aided some more large-scale destruction. They funded this by selling their own organs on the black market. Again, I won't mention details without asking ahead, and this is most likely to come up in a general "not doing that again" way than anything specific.
